The U.S. company Whoop also offers a wristband that records data around the clock and sees the tracker primarily as part of an overall concept (with subscription): The user keeps a daily logbook in which he records, among other things, whether he has taken coffee or medication or dared to look at his cell phone in the evening.

Based on the measured values and the information provided by the user, Whoop then not only creates evaluations of sleep, recovery and stress on the associated app, but also provides concrete instructions for improving the body’s performance.

Now Whoop is rolling out an important update: This gives the app a virtual AI coach that provides detailed and individual answers to health and fitness questions in over 50 different (freely selectable) languages. The basis is GPT-4, the latest version of OpenAI’s generative artificial intelligence (AI).

First of all, the virtual coach is an information database on the topics of fitness and health as well as a virtual support employee for Whoop, who answers questions such as “What does heart rate variability mean?” or “My WHOOP no longer charges – can you help me?” – often with links to more in-depth articles that can be read directly in the app.

What’s more interesting, however, is that you can also ask questions that evaluate your own data. For example, if you ask how you can improve the quality of your sleep, the AI coach not only gives you general advice – such as scheduling time for sleep, darkening your room, or reducing your caffeine intake – but also looks in your personal logbook to see whether you have recently used a cell phone in bed or taken certain supplements (such as magnesium) in order to generate suggestions.

According to Whoop, the AI coach evaluates thousands of its users’ personal data points to figure out why you feel the way you do – and how exactly that affects your performance.
